Often in life, one aims to complete a goal, even if it proves to be unattainable. In the novel, the Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, a constant theme of unrealistic goals is portrayed. At the time the novel was being written, the common people were disillusioned and started a genre of parties, loud music, and a carefree style of dance.
