Throughout Lord of the Flies, Jack is portrayed as being powerful, savage, and irresponsible according to Ralph and Piggy's standards. At the beginning of the book, he is the leader of his choir group. He becomes upset when the group votes for Ralph instead of him for leader of the group. Later in the book, he forms his own tribe of boys, which consist of the choir group, which are called the hunters, and any other boys that wish to join. The reader becomes aware of the intensity of Jack's savagery when Jack takes part in the killing of Piggy and the hunting down of Ralph.
In the beginning of the book Golding indicates what Jack looks like and this is what he said. "He was tall, thin, and bony, and his hair was red. His face was crumpled and freckled, and ugly without silliness." A cruel and ugly bully, he early develops a taste for violence. He is a lead....
