Under no circumstance was the novel's grail anything but a "rescue" of the "god-like" Kurtz, Kurtz's journal and the Townson's Inquiry (An Inquiry into Some Points of Seamanship).
Charles Marlow, the main speaker in the novel, is also indirectly associated with a knight on a grail-less quest (or one with a false grail), a cynic and a critic, and a keen observer of the depravities ....
