The book portrays her fight from when she was a small child on a plantation farm until she became a great civil rights leader in Mississippi. Moody tells of her hardships of growing up poor and black at the time and one can see how she changes and grows living in the United States at the time. She is shaped by society's views and fights against those views to be seen as an equal and not an inferior. Anne Moody was raised in the rural Mississippi towns of Centreville, an extremely racist town in the south.....
