The History Of The Black Panther Party The Black Panther Party was a progressive political organization formed in the early 60’s, although they didn’t have many members until later, that helped in the biggest movement for civil rights in the US, the Civil Rights Movement. It is the only armed black organization in history that fought against slavery and oppression in the US. It represented the greatest idea in the struggle for equality, the idea of a black militaristic group actually fighting for themselves instead of just using non-violent protests. The things that the Panthers did were so radical that FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover called them “the greatest threat to the internal security of the United States”.
