Both attitudinal and institutional racism grossly intertwined in U.S. society and government finally led to the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. Depicted above is just one of the many organized forces demanding equality and respect for Blacks in America and world-wide. This particular group, the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, was organized by Bobby Seale and Huey P. Newton. With the aid of Huey P. Newtons legal background, the Black Panthers legally demanded the end of racism and class oppression based on Constitutional rights. The Black Panther Partys ten point platform stated goals such as "power to determine the destiny of our Black Community"(66) and "an immediate end to POLICE BRUTALITY and MURDER of black people"(67).
