The New Deal The Great Depression was a time when people needed someone to take charge and make something happen to better the economy. In 1932 a man named Franklin D. Roosevelt came up with a new strategy called the New Deal, which he and all Americans hoped would bring their country out of the worst depression it had ever seen.
