State Constitutions In Colonial America Before 1763, Britain was not deeply involved in the daily business of colonial governments. One reason for this was that many changes were taking place in English politics and society. In the beginning many of the colonies were considered the personal property of the king.(Hakim,56) However, due to the limits on royal power the task of governing the colonies fell to Parliament.
