In April of 1939 the New York Worlds Fair opened just east of the metropolis. The theme of the fair was, Building The World of Tomorrow. The World of Tomorrow was a search for a usable Future (with a capital F), and while it added fuel to the fire of the American cultures of consumption and exclusion, it also provided a tangible vision of hope and prosperity in the face of uncertainty and confusion. It was there that television debuted in America.
The debut of television in America was a very important part of our nations history. Television opened a door to a whole new world. In the beginning, people were slow to accept television; however, TV ultimately transformed entertainment and revolutionized the way we see the world.
