Are Liberty And Order At Odds?
.... 1986) If the
citizens of the United States are willing to set a number on the liberties
then we will become slaves in our own country. This country has been
suppressing the liberties of people through their thwarting of protests and
demonstrations that supposedly “posed a threat” to the public. This
suppression has been a violation of the liberties of the people and is
making the American people slaves of the government.
2. Not only do people have the liberty to be kind to othe .....

An Utopian Society Is Wrong For Our Society
.... bring it up because it would draw
attention. If somebody brought attention to somebody smarter then others,
people would feel jealous, angry, and not as smart.
One last reason is that people get to make their own choices. Something
people enjoy in life is getting to choose who they marry, where they live,
their job and other things like that. Choices are usually about every day
life, only the person who the choice is about has the right to make the
decision definate, not anybody else.
That is why I .....

Racism And Segregation In School
.... to sit in the back of the
bus when there weren't even any white people on the bus. Rosa Parks was
even arrested because she wouldn't give up her seat to a white person. She
was in jail, but a year later a judge ruled against segregation.
One other proof of racism is segregation in school. Almost every
white school had new books and lots of luxuries the black students could
only dream of. It wasn't until 1954 that segregation of schools was
illegal, meaning that for all those years there was a segrega .....

Women And Equality In The Workforce
.... men in the workforce
and share an even percentage with them at 50% a piece? Or is it
possible that women will overtake the men and the men will be forced to
pursue their equal rights?
This experiment will attempt to answer that very question. In a
setting where the qualifications are equivalent, do women or men have a
better shot at landing a job? Is there now a discrimination against men
for no other reason except the fear of not hiring a woman? Do college
males have the same chance of bein .....

Class Systems In Ancient History:
.... and royalty. The Hindus set up their city so that
the most powerful (priest) would be closest to the center of the city
nearest the temples of worship. Each step down lived farther away. A
common rule for many civilizations and religions (although not as strict in
others) was the prohibition of marriages between separate classes.
Although this was the case, anyone from a higher class could choose to
marry someone of a lower class, such as a peasant marrying a servant but a
servant could not marry a pea .....

The Issue Of Premarital Sex
.... and possible pregnancy or STD
transmission. The emotional aspects, however, are not so simple. These
three aspects have led to the views held by the different sides to the
issue.
The power that sex wields can be expressed by comparing it to fire.
Fire is good because it heats our homes, cooks our food, and strengthens
steel for building. Fire can also be bad because it burns down homes,
destroys God's creation, and is painful and scarring. Likewise, sex is
also good and/or bad. It is excit .....

Police Brutality: What's Really Going On?
.... the police officers to the
point they had to restrain him. In this case the police reacted to a tense
situation with force and confidence that what they were doing the right
thing.
The police that the author talked to said they would have reacted
the same way and most of the police officers that were interviewed said
that was the right thing to do. Some said they weren't rough enough.
What people saw in this case was the police officers beating Mr.
King without mercy. I don't think that's what happ .....

Greek And Hellenistic Philosophy
.... was that everything
should be fearlessly examined and justified before it should be taken as
truth. Socrates was a wonderful teacher wich was why his pupils used his
information in their works.
Plato was a dedicated student of Socrates. He defended him against
the unjust accusations of Socrates corrupting the youth. Regardless of how
dedicated he was to his predecessor his thought process was very different.
Plato wanted more than anything to solve the problem of how the mind can
experience and recog .....

The Civil Rights Movement: Some Progress Is Better Then No Progress
.... treated as
indentured servants. However this African American servitude quickly
progressed into slavery as tobacco became more of the backbone of the
economy.
For many years the issue of civil rights for African Americans was
left unanswered. Until slowly African Americans and abolitionists of
slavery banded together in order to resurrect the human rights of African
Americans. At the same time a small women's movement started to arise as
many women became politically active in trying not only to abolish .....

Censorship Of Books: Freedom Of What?
.... be able to decide what their neighbor's child
should and should not read. That would clearly violate our first amendment
right. The first amendment, in part states that Americans have freedom of
the press (to publish any material they want.) This also means that we can
access any of these materials. It doesn't mean we have the freedom to
control what others access, that would be referred to as communism.
In Triverton, Rhode Island a middle school class was assigned to
read a book called .....

Constructive Criticism
.... constructive criticism helps to improve
the accuracy and quality of choices made for the nation by our elected
officials.
Found in some form in nearly every aspect of our society, constructive
criticism is an indispensable facet of human improvement. The vast majority
of ideas and behavioral characteristics can be improved, often quite
substantially, by a different individual who possesses a contrasting
perspective. Every human is unique, and has ideas indigenous to his
personality and experience. A .....

Stereotyping Of Teenagers
.... There are plenty of stereotypes, but I believe the one that is
believed the most is what the stereotypical teenage "freak" is.
Constantly people assume, just by looking at me, a lot of different things.
I was surprised to find the number of people who just figured I was into
drugs. I couldn't believe it. Apparently, because I choose to dress
differently, I must be trashed all the time. However, such is not the
case. Police assume we are trouble makers. I have been stopped countless
times, swo .....

Feminism And Gender Equality In The 1990's

I remember in particular the searing effect on me, who once intended to be

divorced, an intellectual know-it-all psychologist, goes to the country to
spend a weekend with her father and his new wife, who is wholesome, happy,
and a good cook and gardener. And there is love and laughter and growi .....

mend racial tension with a comprehensive program that is designed to bring
all races together. Will it work? Or will minorities look upon the effort

yet they will do nothing to alter an individual's perception of one race or
another.
