Limonene And Its Uses
.... for reregistration, EPA announces this
and explains why in a Reregistration Eligibility Decision (RED) document.
This fact sheet summarizes the information in the RED document for
reregistration case 3083, limonene.
Use Profile
Limonene is a naturally occurring chemical which is used in many
food products, soaps and perfumes for its lemon-like flavor and odor.
Limonene also is a registered active ingredient in 15 pesticide products
used as insecticides, insect repellents, and dog and cat repellen .....

The Importance Of The Ozone Layer
.... the ozone reacts
with a chloride ion from chlorine monoxide, the ozone molecule is destroyed.
So chlorine monoxide is an ozone destroyer. There is always a certain
amount of chlorine monoxide in the atmosphere.
It is important to remember that ozone is constantly being created and
destroyed in the atmosphere. The amount of ozone in the atmosphere is based
on these reactions. There are many factors that influence the amount of
reactions like season, latitude, and solar cycle. Because of these factors

What Is A Plant?
.... stems,
and leaves. Roots anchor the plant into the ground and they also gather
minerals and water from the ground. Roots usually grow under ground and
downward. Roots have tiny “hairs” which increase the surface of the roots,
which results in more gathering of minerals and water. Stems are usually
above ground, grow upward, and usually have leaves. Plants that do not
have leaves generally use the stem as the photosynthetic surface, like
cacti. Leaves are still the most common photosynthetic sur .....

Atomic Theory
.... wighing it. In the 20th century, most scientists used
oxygen as the standard gas to compare other gases' weights. It is relativly
easy to measure the weights of liquids and sloids, the same procedure for
gas is followed, more or less. In the early 1960s, though, the
international union of chemistry and physics agreed that there would be a
new standard, carbon isotope (carbon-12).
British physicist Ernest Rutherford found and proved that an atom's
mass is concentrated in its its nucleus, which is the c .....

Life On Other Planets?
.... as found with
the development of algae on many of Earth's deep sea thermal vents, as well
as bacteria that lives beneath the Earth's icy polar tundra's in the arctic
and Antarctic. George W. Wetherill even notes that “Even if a planet or
moon could not support life globally, each could contain a tiny niche where
life could thrive” (Science News, 328).
What are the most favorable conditions for life to develop? It is
now known that life simply cannot emerge anywhere that does not contain
water. It is .....

Aluminum
.... Aluminum is fond in many Rocks
and minerals on the earth's crust. Because aluminum is not very strong and
is highly reactivate with Oxygen, water, acids, and bases it is compounded
with other metals and elements to from alloys for common uses. In Society
Aluminum Alloys are used in many ways because of it's light weight and
versatility. As more and more ways are discovered to strengthened Aluminum
with other elements more uses have also been discovered Aluminum is used in
aircrafts, Electrical Enginee .....

Center Of Gravity
.... flies. If the center of gravity is too far forward, the plane
will have an unstable equilibrium and in turn will take a nose dive into
the ground. If the center of gravity is too far aft (back) the plane will
fall out of control.
You must limit the weight and its positioning on board the aircraft
to prevent these occurrences from happening. The engineers design an
airplane so that it has a maximum weight capacity of passengers, cargo,
fuel, and etc... The engineers design an airplane so that the center .....

The Greenhouse Effect
.... air conditioners, and similar objects. Like carbon dioxide,
the CFCs are trapping more heat in the earth's atmosphere. CFCs have also
been blamed for ozone depletion. CFCs are suspected of breaking down ozone
particles that shield us from the sun's ultraviolet rays. Too many
ultraviolet rays can cause cataracts and skin cancer. A hole in the ozone
has been discovered over Antarctic the size of the United States. The hole
is actually where the ozone has been depleted or thinned by the CFCs .....

Acid Rain
.... believed that acidic rain may be
causing great ecological damage to the planet. The problem was that by the
time that the scientist found the problem it was already very large.
Detecting an acid lake is often quite difficult. A lake does not become
acid over night. It happens over a period of many years, some times decades.
The changes are usually to gradual for them to be noticed early.
At the beginning of the 20th century most rivers/lakes like the river
Tovdal in Norway had not yet begun to die. .....

The Dung Beetle, What A Marvelous Creature.
.... big cow pat. I remember how
disgusting it appeared, but I was just fascinated at the concept of cow
poop being rolled into balls and taken away by bugs. To realize why dung
beetles are so important, you must first know a few facts about them. Dung
beetles are named after their delight in rolling up dung. Dung beetles
utilize the dung of cows, horses, rabbits, deer, sheep, and many other
animals. How many of you think dung beetles actually eat manure? The
answer is yes. Dung beetles just love fresh du .....

Black Holes
.... ergosphere.
According to general relativity, gravitation severely modifies
space and time near a black hole. As the horizon is approached from
outside, time slows down relative to that of distant observers, stopping
completely on the horizon. Once a body has contracted within its
Schwarzschild radius, it would theoretically collapse to a singularity—that
is, a dimensionless object of infinite density.
Formation
Black holes may form during the course of stellar evolution. As
nuclear fue .....

The Serious Problem Of Acid Rain
.... form it will have large impact on the growth or the preservation of
certain wildlife.
NO DEFENSE
Areas like Ontario, Canada, mainly southern regions that are near
the Great Lakes, have substances such as limestone or other known antacids
that can neutralize acids entering the body of water thereby protecting it.
However, large areas of Ontario that are near the Pre-Cambrian Shield, with
quartzite or granite based geology and little top soil, do not posses
enough buffering capacity to neutralize ev .....

What Is Astrology
.... are in constant motion, and because this motion is quite
ordered and exact, it is possible to project the positions of the sun, moon, and
planets for any given time. Astrologers use this information to draw-up a
horoscope and forecast the "influences" that will affect the soul at that time.
Astrologers usually do not predict actual events in the future. They can only
say what might happen, or could happen, but not what will happen--much like a
weather forecast; although many psychics do make predictions .....

The Environment Is Going To Hell
.... now. That's the standard adn canonical litany. It's been drilled into our
heads so far and so focefuly that to hear it yet once more is ... well, it's
almost reasuring. It's comforting, oddly consoling- at least we're face to face
with the enemies: consumption, population, mindless growth. And we know the
solution: cut back, contract, make do with less. "Live simply so that others may
simply live."
There's just one problem with The Litany, just one slight little wee
imperfection: every item in that dim an .....

Docking With Mir
.... traveling at 17,500 miles per hour, only
to have to move within three inches and two degrees of a quickly moving, very
fragile object in space. One small thrust of a poorly aligned engine could cost
one of four space-worthy shuttles and the world's first and only long-term space
station.
Docking was over with soon, and was followed by the cosmonauts of Mir
greeting the astronauts of Atlantis. Gifts of flowers, candy and fruit were
given by the Americans, who in return, following a Russian tradition, .....
