Affirmative Action: Opportunities Of Character, Not Color
.... level the playing field" (Wilkins 334).
They believe that minorities will never be given a fair chance at college
unless diversity is forced upon the campus. Proponents also argue that
affirmative action is the best solution to past discrimination and color-
blindness, and that without affirmative action the gaps between our races
will never close.
Although these arguments may have positive aspects such as creating
a multicultural campus, affirmative action's many faults cause more
problems than .....

The Red Scare
.... the Cold War against communism had quite
an opposite effect compared to its original intentions of preserving
freedom during the red scare.
The early 1950's was a time of emotional stress for much of the
United States. With the USSR and the USA emerging from the second World War
as major world powers, neither wished to give up their newly acquired land.
Both countries following imperialist ideas attempted to spread their
government across the world. America, insecure about its power to uphold a
democrati .....

.... possibly change the baby's future
of life or death, they were warned that this method had not been tested on
small children, but only laboratory animals. The parents agreed to try it.
They allowed Doctor Tom Bowen of the Calgary children's hospital to remove
blood from the child 4 hours. after birth, the blood was then promptly
flown to Los Angeles California where the blood testing was done and a new
gene introduced into the specimen blood. From there the blood was flown

The Use Of The Second Amendment In The Home
.... Elbridge Gerry, a delagate to the Constitutional
convention from Massachusetts, was an activist for the right of the Militia
to bear arms. When asked what use a Militia has, he responded: "What sir,
is the use of a Militia? It is to prevent the establishment of a standing
army, the bane of liberty" (The Commission of the Bicentennial of the
United States Constitution, 26). On December 15, 1791, Virginia ratified
the Bill of Rights, making it, with the second amendment, part of the
constitution (The Com .....

United We Stand For The Red, White, And Blue
.... United States. This is sad, since if those
people lived in any country other than the United States, they would be
severely punished for even thinking badly about the government. There are
also those people who do nothing but complain about how this country is run.
Instead of complaining, they should do something about it. If they feel a
certain way about a certain issue, they could bring it to the attention of
the government. That is yet another good quality of our government, if
someone does not .....

James Madison's Opinion Why A Republic Is Better Than A Democracy
.... you have, the more "fair" the government will be. Compromise
between representatives will have to occur to run the government
effectively.
Madison had now way of knowing, but suppose a large number of
representatives are all controlled by ONE faction...you still have the same
problem that a Democracy would have, only on a smaller scale. (Southern
States in 1860..etc.)
In 1787 however, the American Colonies did not communicate with one
another. Mass. and New York were like two different coun .....

Apartheid In South Africa
.... best jobs, the best social services; all
other races got the leftovers" according to a 1989 Canadian Government
report,
South Africa has changed in just a few years... the first election to allow
all citizens to vote for a new government and a new system came took place
only in 1994, after decades of racial injustice.
That first free, all-race election chose a black man, Nelson Manila,
elected President of South Africa... after he spent 26 years in jail, for
opposing the 'apartheid' of the former white s .....

Roe V. Wade
.... not used in the Constitution, right-wing lawyer Bork
states " Unfortunately, in the entire opinion there is not one line of
explanation, not one sentence that qualifies as a legal argument ". (pg,

because the right to abort, whatever one thinks of it, is not found in the
Constitution ". (Pg, 103, Bork)
Dworkin, distinguished author of the book titled Life's Dominion,
feels differently than the critics described above. He deems .....

The Jury System
.... disadvantageous proofs for the defendant.
Juries who are representative of citizen make the decision value about
proof. But, Jerome Frank, one of delegates of legal realists, criticized
jury system in Law & the Modern Mind, 1930. " A lot of verdicts are
irresponsible juries' products of caprice and prejudice, for example, the
defendant is a rich corporation, the plaintiff is a poor boy and the
counsel is an eloquent speaker. Such facts often decide who wins or loses."
He characterizes that juries have te .....

American Values Of The Freedom Of Speech And The Press
.... BELONG TO THE PEOPLE. IF
WE HAVE TO-WE'LL BURN THE BUILDINGS OF OUR SCHOOLS DOWN TO SHOW
THE PIGS THAT WE WANT AN EDUCATION THAT WON'T BRAINWASH US INTO
BEING RACIST. AND THAT WE WANT AN EDUCATION THAT WILL TEACH US
THE REAL TRUTH ABOUT THINGS WE NEED TO KNOW, SO WE CAN BETTER
SERVE THE PEOPLE!!!!” (Zerman, p.3).
He had challenged the school and the courts by what he said. He won his
court case and showed people that the freedom of speech and the press is a

Affirmative Action Is Wrong
.... in nature and would enable us as a
society to reach a point, at some future date, when they would no longer be
needed" (Shapiro). It is my opinion that we have now reached that date.
Continued use of the policy is much like continued use of a strong
medication. When a patient is suffering from a terrible disease, as was
the United States suffering from discrimination, strong medication is
sometimes needed to cure the problem. But once the disease is taken care
of, further use of the medication does .....

The Presidency Of Theodore Roosevelt
.... Roosevelt. Roosevelt's political presence altered
the course of the United States, transforming it into a superpower fully
ready to handle the challenges of any opposition, and changed the role of
the president and executive branch of US government, making it a force with
which to be reckoned.
As the first president with progressive views, Roosevelt enacted
the first regulatory laws and prosecuted big businesses who had been
violating them and others for years. Roosevelt also initiated the .....

The Need For Affirmative Action
.... of the color of
their skin. While this view seems very logical on the surface, I contend
that it lacks any historical support and is aimed more at preserving
existing white privilege than establishing equality of opportunity for all.
Just looking at the history of this country should provide a serious
critique to the idea of a level playing field. Since the birth of this
nation, Blacks have been an enslaved, oppressed, and exploited people.
Until 1954, when the Supreme Court handed down Brown v. Board, Bl .....

Veterans Day
.... respect the kindness of our
veterans.
Finally, I have the most important reason why we should always
respect our veterans, that is freedom. Without freedom, we could have half
of the things that we have now. We would have no respect, no rights, and
no happiness, In other countries, people don't have freedom, and they are
suffering and dying. Without freedom, we would have nothing.
In conclusion I just wanted to tell everyone what I feel is the
important reasons why we should respect .....
