Taming Of The Shrew: Shakespeare's Preamble Of Katherine And Bianca
.... her sister's strategy, her reaction is as
one can imagine how another would react suffering this type of bias for so
many years. She is hurt and she seeks revenge. This is seen in Act II,
Scene I, when Katherine sums up her own state: “I will go sit and weep/
Till I can find occasion of revenge” (35-36). It is an immature response,
but the only one she knows, and it serves the dual purpose of cloaking her
hurt. The transformation, which she undergoes near the end of the play, is
not one of charac .....

Sex Sells?
.... and look. When he
stops to look at the woman he will see what is advertised and when he does
this the advertisers have accomplished what they set out to do. The man
sees this woman in the advertisement and believes that by buying this
product perhaps he will attract a women like this. For example, in a
Bacardi Rum advertisement from a recent men's sports magazine, there is a
picture of a women's waistline and she is holding a glass of rum along with
a lime. This is a woman with perfect, stereotypic .....

It is only after the townspeople of THebes start to get sick, and they
discover the murder of Laius, that Oedipus begins his great search.

To Kill A Mockingbird: A Movie Review
.... racist, and quite strict.
I feel that the lines in the movie are mostly believable, for the most part.
It is obvious that some of the phrases that were used by the children are
slightly forced, and unnatural. The language and vocabulary that were
utilized throughout the film I found to be fitting the characters. With
the acting, I was not impressed, however. It seemed to me that the acting
was very novice and awkward. Gregory Peck was the only actor that I felt
had much offerable talent in perfo .....

Personalities And Themes In "The Shawshank Redemption"
.... which is
known for its harshness. One does not know if it is Andy who committed the
murder of his wife and her lover. What is learned though, is that he is
not ready for prison and honestly doesn't seem like a man who would survive.
His thinking going into prison is just to survive and blend in. He's a
wise man who competently deals with what the justice system has served him.
He is normal on the outside but emotionally tormented on the inside. Andy
is a very complex character who displays introvert .....

Hamlet: Shakespeare Tragic Hero
.... a chance to kill
Claudius he takes it, but by then it was too late. Hamlet was killed as
well. He could have prevented his downfall if it wasn't for his tragic
flaw.
Another reason Hamlet is a classic example of Shakespearean tragedy
is because it incorporates the idea of catharsis. Aristotle defined
catharsis as the purging of the emotions of fear and pity. In the play,
Claudius has the emotion of fear because he is afraid of Hamlet knowing
that he killed his father. Claudius knows that Hamlet is .....

The Tragedy Of Julius Caesar: Brutus
.... speaking to Cassius. Brutus loves Caesar, but
would not allow him to "climber-upward...He then unto the ladder turns his
back..."(act 2, scene 1, ll.24,26). As the quote says, Brutus would not
allow Caesar to rise to power and then turn his back onto the people of
Rome. After the assassination of Julius Caesar, Brutus talks to Antony
about Caesar's death. "Our hearts you see not; they are pitiful; and pity
to the general wrong of Rome..."(act 3, scene 1, ll.185-186). Brutus says
that Antony cannot see th .....

Analysis Of The Movie Contact
.... is ironic that Arroway falls back on faith to
believe her journey took place upon her return after having shunned faith
that others had in God before. The movie did not deal with the Cold War
politics that Sagan's book dealt with mainly because of the release date of
this movie. The movie was made well after the end of the Cold War and the
efforts to build a space pod for space travel is depicted as being an
international effort.
The feasibility of the events in Contact is not too far from
real .....

Macbeth: Guilty By His Actions Then Lady Macbeth Is By Hers
.... talked
about committing the crime, but she never actually went through with it nor
would she ever, and that is all that counts. Talking about committing the
incident is very different from actually doing it. Lady Macbeth did a
little more than just talk about it though. She also urged Macbeth into
doing it and that is what makes her part of this crime, but she is not as
guilty as Macbeth. He really didn't have to listen to what his wife said.
Macbeth had a mind of his own and he could make his own .....

Analysis Of A Cartoon Regarding The Vietnam War
.... Vietnam. This
was represented as a group of monolithic communists.
Another myth present was "Peace with Honor". This was President
Richard Nixon's slogan while negotiating with North Vietnam to withdraw
their troops. As the war went on and we continued to lose more and more
men, the American public wondered why we didn't just withdraw our men. The
American public saw this war going nowhere. An explanation given as to why
we were unable to withdraw our men was because we couldn't lose our honor.

The Odyssey: Character Study Of Athena
.... she leaves,
she gives a little hint to him that she's actually a goddess by turning
into a bird. I think this was a weakness of Athena. The fact that she
constantly showed off to many people that she was indeed a goddess shows
that she wants to be praised by all and showing a slight immature and soft
side on her part.
This can also be interpreted as a good action in some cases. When
Telemakhos knows Athena, a goddess, is on his side, this gives him extra
confidence. She also shows a caring side when she .....

The Truth Of Suffering In King Lear

Cordelia: Good my lord,
You have begot me, bred me, loved me.
I return those duties back as are right fit:
Obey you, love you, and most honor you........
That lord whose hand must take my plight shall carry
Half my love with him, half my care and duty.
Sure I shall never marry like my sisters,
To love my father all. (1.1.105-15)
Cordelia's plight is only one of the many truths Lear is unable to see.
Since he is king, he is t .....

to believe throughout the years of their marriage. Nora tells Dr. Rank, a
family friend: “...You know how deeply, how passionately Torvald is in love
with me. He would never hesitate for a moment to sacrifice his life for my
sake.”
Later in the play Nora made the same mistake with Kristine Linde as
she did with Dr. Rank. In the following line Nora expresses her belief of
what Helmer may do: “Then you must testify... And I tell you this: nob .....

A Character Analysis Of Macbeth In Shakespeare's Macbeth
.... foe:
(I,ii,37-39)
From this we can tell that he was a relentless and courageous fighter and
would not stop until he had won. He is such a fearless fighter that the
day would be remembered for centuries to come the sergeant says: "Or
memorize another Golgotha," this tells us that Macbeth would have gone
down in the books as Scotland's heroic warrior. Macbeth had two glorious
battles both of which he had won. from these battles and the sergeants
words we can truly say that Macbeth wa .....

Macbeth: Theme Of Night Vs Day And Evilness
.... guilt starts to get the best of him. He slowly starts going
mad because of his guilt and begins to worry. Macbeth tries to snap out of
it and act normal so that nobody will suspect anything, but he gets worse.
“Methought I heard a voice cry, ‘Sleep no more! Macbeth does murder sleep'”
(II.ii.35-36). Macbeth's sleeplessness means the more sleep he loses, the
more he is exposed to night, which is evil.
The witches play a key role in turning Macbeth into the paranoid,
dangerous person that he hi .....
