Going Out On My Own
.... to be an old hippie friend of my father’s from the early seventies, and was hired on the spot. I was hired as a cook and was soon running the kitchen for the day shift. Our menu mainly consisted of home cooked favorites such as boiled pot roast with new potatoes and honey glazed carrots, meat loaf with a spicy tomato sauce, and my personal favorite chicken fried steak. Our chicken fried steak was a half-pound monster that was double breaded, deep-fried and served with a white gravy made from bacon grease .....

My Friend's Battle With Anorexia
.... she would entertain us with dramatized stories about her latest fight with her on again off again boyfriend. She was always the center of attention, and made no effort to ever hide her emotions or problems. Overall, Laura had a great personality and always knew how to cheer any one of us up. All of this began to change after our best friend Lauren confessed that she had an eating disorder.
This news surprised us all. Lauren was really skinny, but so was her entire family. She always ate a lo .....

My Life In Vietnam And The Move To The United States
.... toughest challenge to date. As a third grader attending a new elementary school in a new country, I felt left out because of my inability to communicate and adapt with the environment. Some kids assumed that I did not understand them at all, so they made rude remarks about me and my race. I understood them, maybe not completely, but I knew the intent of their messages. All that I had was my Apple II computer at which I just sat and programmed when I came home from school. At home, my parents pressured .....

The Nasty Restroom
.... or only contaminate them more. Globs of traveler’s toothpaste stuck to the cold water handle were teeming with ants, and clumps of hair gripped tightly to the drain. After thoroughly washing my hands under the hot water, I blindly grabbed for a paper towel from the mold covered dispenser. In a rush, I attempted to dry my hands over the trash can when my ring slipped off my finger and into the disgusting pit of vile objects. At first I was upset at my loss, but then I became furious. I rolled up my sleeves .....

Employee Theft At Staples
.... few weeks, I watched loads of equipment leave the store. Three Palm Vs were now in Martin’s possession, Jesse made off with some RAM, Doug robbed some hard drives, and Jason even pilfered a laptop. Most of the guys claimed that the lack of proper wages justified the theft. “After all,” Doug said one day, “All we’re doing is stealing from Staples what they owe us anyway.” I was scared. Was there a chance of losing my job if I didn’t reveal the secret to a member of management? And if I did tell, would gett .....

A Picture Painted By Nature
....
Once you step across the threshold seperating my patio from my yard and stand outside you can actually grope the image of my backyard with your eyes, it is clear that grass is the most abundant commodity here. there must be at least a billion blades of healthy green sheathes penetrating up from fertile chocolate brown soil. the only discoloration that is visible on each blade occurs on their tops. these tops were once as green as the rest of their bodies, but are now brown and jagged from the .....

One Afternoon
.... man, stomping out the screen door with his fist raised and yelling at us, threatening to call our mother. Eventually he'd go back inside after he realized he couldn't find us, even though we were crouching behind the nearby pines at the edge of his yard. Still waiting at least ten more minutes (to see if the old crab would emerge from his door) Ryan and I would plan our escape route. A quick sprint down the road would bring us to our destination: the backyard tree fort. It was a plan. A decent plan.

The Prison
.... I am a people person. I could not refuse to talk to someone just because they were a inmate. Then, I defiantly did not like to be addressed as Mrs. Tucker. As far as I was concerned, the day the divorce was final, that was the day I stopped being Mrs. Tucker. But, I was told that was what I had to do.
There were other rules I was told about, such as inmates were not allowed to handle money at all. so, I had gave money as a refund, I was to never give any to an inmate. I was, to keep my stockdoor loc .....

An Asian American In America
.... we got caught and were sent to jail for one day. The second time, we escaped into Thailand and stayed there for about one year. My aunt living in the United States decided to bring my family to the United State, so we made the long and tuff struggle to America.
We went to the Philippine Island for six months so that were medically prepared to go to the United States. After six months we were given a departure date. During these times, my parents struggle to keep us alive through any means. They wa .....

My Vacation In Acapulco Mexico
.... winding halfway up his legs. This dance depicted a story of a hunter and his prey. It was narrated by a woman who was also in costume. Brightly dressed Mexican men were beating drums and banging sticks providing the sound effects for the story. This was truly a great beginning to a wonderful afternoon. Behind the restaurant was a low mountainous area, accessible by walking trails only. We hiked one of these trails, observing the brightly colored tropical plants and trees that flourished on this well ma .....

Observation Of A Computer
.... which measures 1” by 5 ¼” where the CR-ROM drive resides. On the front of the CR-ROM drive there is a single oval button, which activates the slider mechanism and opens the door. Below the CD-ROM drive is a 3”x 5” disk drive. There is also only one button on the front of the disk drive, which is used to eject a disk. I am now going to move from the front of the box to the back of the box.
As I look for a way to remove the casing, I notice there are many receptacles for the respective devices they .....

Personal Reflections
.... and outings to plays and musical recitals. Those times were sometimes fun sometimes tedious. But today, I have come to enjoy these types of cultural events. They have helped to shape who I am today.
How do you grieve someone you hardly knew, but who is supposed to mean so much?? I have postponed the grief some what through alcohol and drug use and avoidance. He did mean something to me because when we came home from school, in seventh grade, that day in January, I was shocked when Mom declared, "you're f .....

People And Places
.... It was like a small family. What was more amazing is how everybody blended in so perfectly and how they matched the place like a puzzle.
As we were wandering around, the owner came up to us and welcomed us to his club, noticing that it was our first time there. Now that I have known him for over a year and a half, I can say that he is one of the nicest people I've ever met. Speaking with an Italian accent, always gesturing, dressed very elegantly and always wearing nice suits, expensi .....

My Decision To Get A Degree
.... my life. My children age ten and four, will see the effort and hard work that is required to be an over achiever. I believe this will motivate them to succeed and maybe “compete with mom”. With the computer information technology, it brings even more opportunity to learn a whole new area of skills.
Some people have not grown with the knowledge of computers and are finding they need more education in that area in order to function at a modern pace. Whether young or old educati .....

.... math today!" "How do you know?, said Cathy. " We heard Mr. Biller talking about it to another teacher." "I'm going to fail!"exclaimed Cathy. Cathy hated math, probably because she had it first hour. Cathy was having a bad day, she got 1 out of 50 right on the math test. From then on it was downhill all day. Until science her science teacher was going crazy about the explosion of Earth. She found out that there was a nuclear war between the United States and Russia. The Russians sent an experime .....
