Chinese Shih Poetry And Philos
.... he was stopped by a man who asked him to write down all of his ideas and beliefs. The result was the Tao Te Ching, or the Book of the Virtue of the Way. The book set forth the basic ideas of Taoism; that is, following the Tao, or the Way. The main goal of Taoists was to live in harmony with the natural world around them, and to rid themselves of materialistic desires. The primary concern for Taoists like Lao Tzu was to understand the way of the world, and to use that knowledge for self-preservation. .....

Cyclones
.... since white settlement in 1788 (the Bathurst Bay cyclones killed 300 people but didn't reach land). Cyclone Tracy hit the coastal city of Darwin on Christmas Day 1974. Although people had warning on New Year's Day about Cyclone Tracy, they were busy preparing for Christmas and thought that the cyclone would pass away just like Cyclone Selma had done three weeks before. Cyclone Tracy came roaring down the Arafura Sea (where most the cyclones develop in that area) and was on track to bypass Darwin but c .....

.... equipped with CD-ROM drives and modems, subscription-based services such as America Online (AOL), Prodigy, and Compuserve, where consumers are able to check airline flight schedules and make reservations, purchase a wide variety of products, and discuss product performance with other consumers, are becoming very popular. The cirrocumulus clouds sometimes form a pattern of a buttermilk sky. The cirrostratus clouds sometimes form tangled webs or thin whitish sheets. A large ring or halo is sometimes seen around the sun or moon when the cirrostratus covers the sky.
The middle layer of clouds range in altitude from 6,500 to 23,000 feet. The altocumulus, altostratus, and nimbostra .....

Oil Spills
.... the bottom of the beautiful waters, you wonder what that sticky black killer was. It's simple. It's crude. It's oil.
This scenario is nothing but a harsh reality that most people were unconcerned about until the disaster of the Exxon Valdez. The Valdez spill, tragically unnecessary though it was, has served as a laboratory for scientists, in which they can study the effects of oil pollution and experiment with new cleanup methods. It has also served as a costly lesson in the pitfalls of petroleum .....

Orion Nebula
.... the center of the nebula.
The Orion Nebula is a spectacular sight. Consequently, it has been a preferred target of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) over recent years. The HST has provided a great deal of insight into the complicated process of star formation. In June of 1994, C. Robert O’Dell, a Rice University

astronomer, discovered the presence of protoplanetary disks around some stars of the Orion Nebula. After surveying 110 M42 stars, O’Dell found that 56 of them had disks around .....

Ebola Virus
.... population was dramatically reduced when about 300,00 of its inhabitants died from some sickness.
Some people now believe that this great plague was really Ebola.
The first recorded outbreak of the Zaire string of the Ebola virus was in Zaire, in 1976. The doctors didn't know how to treat it and that meant that
they didn't know how to contain it either. As infected people met in public places the virus spread. In Western Sudan, the same year, the Sudan string
of the Ebola virus emerged wi .....

Evolutionism
.... supporting evolution has greatly increased.
Charles Darwin was one scientist who helped to increase the evidence supporting
evolution. Darwin developed the idea of “natural selection” where living things that reproduced
in large numbers and survived became dominant and other living things adapted to survive, or
they died. Francis Crick, a scientist, co-discovered DNA which opened new doors to the idea of
evolutionism (History). DNA is the pattern by which people are created as individua .....

Endocrine Disruptors
.... claimed to be associated with environmental contamination although the specific causative agents have not been determined. One recent discovery that complicates the situation is that there are many naturally occurring "phytoestrogens", or chemicals of plant origin that exhibit weak estrogenic properties.
Pesticides that behave like the female hormone estrogens can have serious effects on reproductive success and function on animal exposed to them. Reproductive success or fitness is defined by h .....

Evolution
.... holds. At the rate of speed in which the computer is taking over we can make an educated guess that within the next ten years computers will have made all the adjustment and become a full necessity and no longer a luxury. Lastly let’s look at a portion of our society that everyone is not lucky enough to always participate in. By definition a luxury is something inessential, usually expensive that provides pleasure and comfort. This is probably the easiest part of our society to examine. Everything in .....

Industrial waste dumped in the Mediterranean have so depleted the oxygen supply that some species of bacteria that decompose sewage have been wiped out and the nutrient cycles disturbed. Even the ocean environment has been altered by dumping. Many species have been exterminated or endangered as a result of humans killing the individ .....

Effects Of Marijuana
.... be taken in three ways, by eating, made
into a tea, or smoking (the most popular). Smoking it can be
done three ways, through a pipe, a joint, blunt. A joint is a
rolled piece of paper that is twisted at the ends. A blunt is
normally an emptied cigar wrapper filled with marijuana. In a
blunt you can fit much more marijuana. Though a blunt isn't
always purely marijuana, it can be mixed with other drugs such as
angel dust.
The results are varied when someone smokes marijuana.

Endangerd Species
.... be extinct. I never knew that some kinds of birds were in danger. We can help these animals and plants by making laws that you are not allowed to hunt or kill any animal that is in danger of extinction.
Government Involvement
Only since the 19th century has there been worldwide concern about the case of species in their natural environments. Finally in 1916 they made a law called Migratory Bird Treaty. They had this law in United States, Great Britain, Canada, and later in Mexico. This law w .....

Ebola Virus
.... the virus is present up to 7 weeks after being treated. Vomit and diarrhea contain the infected blood and mucus so any contact with this, e.g. in poor drinking water can cause contraction of the virus. Luckily enough Ebola is not airborne and in some cases due to its self-limiting nature, it has been known to die out within a person before killing the host. In one case when a Swiss researcher found the Ebola Tai virus, she contracted it from a chimpanzee. This was during an investigation into the spur .....
