The Tobacco Industry: Liable F
.... you think? A while ago, in the 1950's, the FDA passes a regulation that forced cigarette companies to place warning labels on the side of their products, informing consumers of the dangers of the consumption of their product. Well, if people know about the effects, wouldn't a case be deemed frivolous in court? How is their case heard?
There are two reasons for this: states are suing in place of citizens, and the tobacco companies allegedly lied about the effects of smoking. Currently, .....

The Troubles With Camping
.... bags happen to get wet, the cold also becomes a major factor. A sleeping bag usually provides warmth on a camping trip; a wet sleeping bag provides none. Combining wind and rain can cause frigid temperatures, causing any outside activities to be delayed. Even inside the tent problems may arise due to heavy winds. More than a few campers have had their tents blown down because of the wind, which again begins the frustrating task of setting up camp in the downpour.
Another problem likely to be fa .....

The Truman Show
.... each of us like Truman are held captive in a world that has been altered without our permission. We in our own lives are held captive to the effects of media. In every direction we move we will always come to a wall, some form of media or advertising will stop us and attract our attention. It is a reality that we are not aware of and we can not escape. We in the real world, are much like Truman, held in captivity to this media that is influencing the society. The silent, but lethal effects are evident a .....

The Truth Is Not Absolute
.... help to determine the judgments toward the different
issues and objects that they encounter. Because individuals has his or her own sense of reason and logic, the perceptions that people
encounter are ultimately true, and not false. Life does not contain
one truth for any idea or object, but truths can be found in one's
perception. It is difficult to determine that anything is the absolute truth. One should not prove that any object contains a true meaning, but should develop conceptions sur .....

The Tv Era
.... candidate’s move and his beliefs and opinions towards foreign and domestic politics. More important than anything, with the television, ordinary people have a chance to keep track of world affairs. Today, an average person can come home from work, take off his shoes, lean back in the chair and turn on the TV. Then, he has the access to information about Bosnia and the children starving in Central Africa, both taking place thousands of miles away. On the other hand, the same guy maybe just wishes t .....

The Tyranny Of Choice
.... that people purchase things to help them appreciate themselves. The problem is that the more choices there are the more possible way to define yourself. If a person has too many desires and is face with too many choices, they are likely to doubt his/her self. Waldman clarifies that people work hard to improve their appearance and still don't feel better about themselves.
Waldman complains that "Choice Reduces Social Bonding." He pointed out that people shares fewer common experiences and that our soc .....

The U.s School System
.... to be a new school to accommodate the influx of children. If they do not decide to open a new school, they will definitely need to build new facilities at Oviedo High. The fact that the average class has around thirty students is just alarming, especially with all of the new in coming freshmen. Therefore, with more individual learning space I believe that a healthy learning environment will be produced, limiting distraction and conflict, along with providing more individual learning opportunities.

The Uncertainty Of Knowledge
.... in believing some statements and not justified in believing other statements? For the most part people believe in statements as a response to societal pressures and for personal content. Society needs to be comforted by having strong beliefs, which can reduce the stresses of uncertainty. Hence in order to actually believe and justify knowledge, one must have some form of this faith.
Being one of the primary sources of reason and doubt, religion plays a widely dominant role in our society today. But how .....

The Uncertainty Of Perception
.... we see is not the entire being or actuality of the world around us but instead a finite perception (by means of vision) of the universe. The technical definition of the other key term, belief, is "a state or habit of mind in which trust or confidence is placed in some person or thing." In context, I will use the typical philosopher's definition and define belief as "the unthinking acceptance of an idea or system of ideas." Philosophically, belief is "blind" and is described as "the process of mak .....

The Unexamined Life
.... to stand in judgment, which, in turn, allows us to live the
moral, noble lives that Socrates spoke of.
Another belief of Socrates that supports his view is the idea that evil
derives from ignorance and the failure to investigate or explore peoples
actions. I believe this to be true, also. This idea also supports his beliefs
on death. Socrates was not well liked because he explored his ignorance, and
was eventually put to death because of it.
Marie Curie once said, "Nothing in .....

The United States Postal Servi
.... a year. This is a fairly easy problem to fix considering how much money is being lost. It was proposed that money loss could be significantly cut down if the Postal Service corrected the following problems. The rural mail carriers were assigned a certain amount of time to deliver to a specific rural area, this method was out of date and because of this the carriers have free time for which they got paid for. The next problem was that other mail routes based pay on how many miles the route covered, .....

The United States Steel Indust
.... United States at less than fair value or which benefit from subsidies provided through foreign government programs. Under the law, the Department of Commerce determines whether the dumping or subsidizing exists, and if so, the margin of dumping or the amount of the subsidy. The ITC determines whether the dumped or subsidized imports materially injure or threaten to materially injure the U.S. industry.
After preliminary investigations in November 1998, the ITC determined that the domestic industry w .....

The Unity Of The Mind And Body
.... which is learned through the studies of the “great thinkers” of the past, and steered clear of being taken control of by the omnipotent imagination.
In Montaigne’s essay “On the Education of Children,” Montaigne stresses the importance of education, but only promotes a select few genres of education as appropriate. Montaigne links these few genres of education directly to the well being of the body. First, Montaigne declares that “The mind that harbours philosoph .....

The Unknown Citizen
.... over controlling nature. At the same time, Auden employs words to develop the passiveness of the unthinking citizen: “no official complaint,” “the Greater Community,” “normal in every way,” “the proper opinions for the time of the year.” Using these word choices, Auden not only attack the citizen but modern society overall. Modern society, on its surface, advocates freedom of speech and expression. Yet, beneath punishes people, either psychologically, .....

The Us Is Murdering The Iraqis
.... living longer and better lives. Saddam oversaw all of this and his people loved him. But the United States government felt that Saddam and Iraq were growing too powerful in the sensitive Middle East region, and thus began a series of attempts to weaken their power.
1972 is when the U.S. put Iraq on the list of terrorist nations. This was probably done because the country was becoming very well developed and it was not a democracy. Part of the US policy is to take part in every conflict that goes .....
