Melatonin And The Pineal Gland
.... it a message of how much
sunlight they see, and when it's dark. The sunlight prohibits the gland from
producing melatonin, so at night, when there's no sun, the sleep-inducing
hormone is released into our bodies. Because of the pineal gland and melatonin,
humans have known to sleep at night and wake during the day since long before
the age of alarm clocks.
Humans don't produce melatotin right from birth; it is transfered in utero
to babies through the placenta. For their first few days of life, .....

Gregor Mendel's Theories Of Genetic Inheritance
.... Different alleles will create different variations in
inherited characters. The sescond idea is that for each character, an organism
inherits two genes, one form each parent. So this means that a homolohous loci
may have matching alleles, as in the true-breeding plants of Mendel's P
generation(parental). If the alleles differ, then there will be F hybrids. The
third idea states that if the two alleles differ, the receessive allele will
have no affect on the organism's appearance. So a F hybrid plant .....

Mononucleosis
.... protein that enable them to enter cells. Viruses are
unable to multiple outside of cells. Mono is found in the DNA in the body.
Another name for mononucleosis is glandular fever because of the fever and
swelling of the lymph nodes throughout the body. What causes mononucleosis is
the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), which is like herpes. The herpes virus also
causes some cases of mono and other diseases. Mono usually occurs in adults 15
to 30 years old, but is known to appear at any age.
Mono symptoms incl .....

How Moods Are Affected By The Sun
.... a vivid description of the effects of prolonged darkness on the human
psyche: "The curtain of blackness which has overfallen the outer world has also
descended upon the inner world of our souls," Cook wrote in his journal on May
16, 1898, "Around our tables . . . . men are sitting about sad and dejected
lost in dreams of melancholy. For brief moments some try to break the spell by
jokes, told perhaps for the 50th time. Others grind out a cheerful philosophy;
but all efforts to infuse bright hopes fail. .....

his intensive self analysis in 1897, shortly after the death of his father.
Freud says it is only the male child that we find the fateful
combination of love for the one parent and simultaneous hatred for the other as
a rival. Freud believed Oedipal was a normal part of human psychological growth
and it is during this stage children produce emotional conflicts.
Other psychoanalysts believed that girls experience a .....

Herpes-Simplex: Type 2
.... has actually been developed.
The second type of the herpes simplex virus, however, is the usual cause
of genital herpes. Herpes infections of the genital area have become
increasingly common, going along with a rise in general of many sexually

usually begins with a mild itching, followed by the development of clusters of
blisters that break and crust to form scabs that eventually dry up. The process
may last one to .....

Multiple Births

single pregnancy, to survive in medical history were the Dionne quintuplets.
The use of drugs that treat female sterility, or fertility drugs, may
increase the chances of giving birth to multiple children. These drugs cause
the ovaries to release an egg once a month but in some cases they release more
than one egg, sometimes releasing several at a time, increasing the chances of a
multiple birth. The drug clomiphene citrate is one of the most widely taken
fertility drug and has resulted in the bir .....

AIDS

protection is not 100% it is the only way that actually helps prevent you from
getting the virus. I think that society should make condoms more accessible to
young people, I believe they should have condom machines in girl and guys school
bathrooms. I also feel that they should be distributed in school social events
such as dances or proms, when it is most likely that they will be having sex.
Giving youth condoms is not encouraging sex, in my opinion yet it is educate .....

the early 1990s but had not yet developed clinical symptoms. In addition,
although the vast majority of documented cases have occurred in the United
States, AIDS cases have been reported in about 162 countries worldwide. Sub-
Saharan Africa in particular appears to suffer a heavy burden of this illness.
No cure or vaccine now exists for AIDS. Many of those infected with HIV may not
even be aware that they carry and can spread the virus. It i .....

Female Genital Mutilation: Long Term Psychological Effects
.... however, it continues to be practiced in Africa and the
Middle East mostly due to social forces. New reasoning developed through the
years to keep the ritual going on. The many reasons given for the practice are
bewildering and unfounded in any scientific or medical fact. They fall into four
main categories: psycho-sexual, religious, sociological and hygienic. Among the
psycho-sexual reasons is a belief that the clitoris is an aggressive organ that
threatens the male organ and even endangers babies .....

muscles give the body bulk and form. Then human body contains millions of

Muscles are the foundation on which our bodies are built. Without muscles our

Alcohol Consumption By Adolescents
.... by adolescents is frequent, alcoholism is very rare.
Still, alcohol consumption by adolescents hinders normal development. Alcohol
intake by children can result in learning impairment, hyperactivity, and
personality and behavior problems, because today's society has accepted the
casual use of alcohol (Effects, 1996, 1). Among men, research suggests that
greater alcohol use is related to greater sexual aggression (Shalala, 1995, 2).
