The Turks And Mongols
.... of the Chinese historians. By 800 B.C. we hear of a people called the Hiung-Nu, who gradually grew in importance until they came to dominate all of Mongolia.8 At a fairly late date, set by McGovern between 541 and 300 B.C., the Hiung-Nu presumably obtained horses, and learned to ride them. They seem to have acquired these animals from the Iranians or from Turkish-speaking peoples, along with the whole complex of horse nomadism. Chinese accounts of the Hiung-Nu later than the third century B.C. ref .....

Emperor Claudius
.... eye as an embarrassment. A sign of this familial disdain is that he remained under guardianship, like a woman, even after he had reached the age of majority. Suetonius, in particular, preserves comments of Antonia, his mother, and Livia, his grandmother, which are particularly cruel in their assessment of the boy. From the same source, however, it emerges that Augustus suspected that there was more to this \\\"idiot\\\" than met the eye. Nevertheless, Claudius spent his entire childhood and youth in almo .....

Atomic Bomb 9
.... mass is surrounded in a spherical arrangement of conventional explosives. When the fuse is triggered all of the conventional explosives explode at the same time. This causes the subcritical mass to be compressed into a smaller volume, thus creating a supercritical mass to be formed. After this supercritical mass is obtained, a self-sustained chain reaction takes place and causes the atomic explosion. This type of atomic bomb was used on Nagasaki, and given the nickname “Fat Man” after Winst .....

The American Revolution
.... as their way of
life. But in America things had taken a different turn. The tone of
society was essentially democratic. There were no lords or hereditary
offices. The Americans did not like to look up to superiors, nor were
their leaders set apart by privileges of birth and inherited wealth. The
opportunities of the New World made men enterprising, energetic, and
aggressive. Restraints were few, custom counted for little, and rank for
less. Between these two societies there could not be much in com .....

Emile Durkheim & Anomie Or Strain Theory
.... society that leads to deviant behavior. Durkheim used the term anomie again in his classic 1897 book Suicide, referring to a morally deregulated condition were people have inadequate moral control over their actions. Therefore, a given society may be anomic if people do not know when to stop striving for success, or how to treat others along the way. Regardless of which of these two descriptions of anomie one uses, a brake down in either the rules of society or the moral norms, Durkheim clearly meant to .....

Augustine And Conversion
.... me chastity and continence, but not just now.” Later Augustine ran into many
contradictions in Manicheist doctrines, which led him away from this philosophy and turned him to skepticism. Soon after finding out these contradictions Augustine left Carthage and headed off to Rome and then on to Milan.
While Augustine was in Milan he met Saint Ambrose, who at the time was Bishop of Milan. It was through the guidance of Ambrose and hearing stories of men that had gone through conversion before and .....

Book Review On Theodore Draper’s A Struggle For Power: The A
.... and King George III. He is astonishingly precise in his history of the colonies, and makes judgments more perceptive than those of many specialists. His account of the causes and nature of the Revolution is astoundingly imaginative and domineering. Though his work is challenging of conventional views, Draper sets before us one of the greatest political and moral novels that led up to the American Revolution.
Most remarkable in Draper’s novel is the way the strategic concerns of a variety of the .....

(2) the period of the prehistoric agriculturalists and pastoralists (approximately the 8th to
the mid-4th millennium BC),
(3) the Early Indus or Early Harappan Period (so called after the excavated .....

Australia And Asia Relationshi
.... the Vietnam War meant that in a very real sense China (which gave direct tangible support to both the North Koreans and the North Vietnamese) was Australias enemy (Vadney 1998). Not surprisingly during this period there was a substantial body of public opinion which, either because of initiation at Australias involvement in both the Korean and Vietnam War's, was because of interest in developing closer ties with China in economic and humanitarian grounds, was influencing the political orientation of .....

Australia Day
.... on which everyone can feel included, in which everyone can participate equally, and can celebrate with pride our Australian identity. I believe acknowledgement of the past is the first step towards reconciliation. That includes recognition that since white settlement (or invasion, as indigenous people experienced it) the Aborigines were dispossessed of their land and the life that was lived on it.
The consequences of these experiences, I believe are felt in every aspect of life. It is surely quite obv .....

Austria Ottoman Report
.... was just waiting for its demise.
In The Crimean War, from 1854 to 1856 Russia fought Turkish forces to win access to the Mediterranean Sea. The British helped the Turks to keep the current trade routes, and the French fought to keep a balance in the already shaky Balkan area. During this war, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Romania fought for their freedom from their oppressors. There were not enough Turkish troops to suppress all of these revolutions, so the people were massacred.
Soon after, in 1877 The .....

Avarice In America
.... to be repaid. The Robber Barons would do almost anything to gain more money and more power even putting hard working people out of their houses.
It is often said that money is the root of all evil. The Robber Barons of the late 19th century proved this theory without fail. They showed that greed can overtake morals if the conditions are right. It
is very evident that the Robber Barons had no qualms about ruining the lives of the people that worked for them and of society in general. The only go .....
