King Lears Blindness
.... foolish of an action he has just executed. Kent’s effort to steer Lear in the right direction backfires. Lear is offended by Kent’s attempt to make him go against his word and reverse the disownment on Cordelia. Lear, feeling his pride in jeopardy, goes into a fit of rage and banishes Kent for questioning his judgment:
On thine allegiance, hear me!
That thou hast sought to make us break our vow,
Which we durst never yet, and with strain’d pride
To come betwixt .....

King Lears Emotional Stages

Regan throws him out in the storm (Bruhl 317). The main mistakes appears “
as he [Lear] enters the phantasmagoria [fantastic imagery, as in a dream] of
his madness”( Halio 192). This type of thinking makes Lear become mentally
unstable.
One can attribute King Lear’s main mental anguishes to the direct act
of wrong doing towards him. The wrong doings cause so much suffering
because it comes from the two people he thought loved him more than any

.... group grew larger, and larger. At one point in the book, the clique was so powerful, the others were not only ousted , but they were tormented also. The tormenting eventually led to the killing of others who weren't in the group.
III. CHARACTERS
I believe there are two main characters in the book. One of them is Ralph, for his coolness and consideration, and another is Jack, for his leadership roll. Another reason I picked Jack and Ralph as main characters is because they have a conflict throug .....

Not only are the characters in the island world similar to people in society, the actions of the boys on the island are similar to actions of people in society. Some things that Jack does are abusing others to gain power and promising his followers materiel things for respect. Som .....

Lord Jim
.... would happen. But the chief's son and many others were killed, and Doramin was outraged. Jim returned to the village, knowing he would be punished. When he got there, Doramin shot him in the chest and he died.
I think the major theme of this book is courage. Jim is a good guy who made a terrible mistake and cannot forgive himself for what he has done. He made a cowardly act, but that should not keep him from moving on, yet it does. He was not brave, and that bugged him. In the end, however, by .....

Lord Of The Flies -
.... Due to his
academic childhood, he was more mature than the others and retained
his civilized behaviour. But his experiences on the island gave him a
more realistic understanding of the cruelty possessed by some people.
The ordeals of the three boys on the island made them more aware of
the evil inside themselves and in some cases, made the false
politeness that had clothed them dissipate. However, the changes
experienced by one boy differed from those endured by anothe .....

Lord Of The Flies - Fixed
.... While reading chapter one, the reader can discover one of the many themes of the story. The need for civilization is the most obvious one. With out civilization man tries to define himself. Maybe that's why Jack Merridew in civilization is the leader of the boys' choir then is the leader of the tribe. How ironic that in the beginning the characters are described as well-educated young boys and turn out to be savage, ignorant boys. This is because they had no understanding of their surroundings and no idea .....

Lord Of The Flies 2 -
.... When the confusion finally leads to a
manhunt [for Ralph], the reader realizes that despite the strong sense
of British character and civility that has been instilled in the youth
throughout their lives, the boys have backpedaled and shown the
underlying savage side existent in all humans. "Golding senses that
institutions and order imposed from without are temporary, but man's
irrationality and urge for destruction are enduring" (Riley 1: 119).
The novel shows the reader ho .....

Ralph and Simon, who are both good, build shelters and maintain the fire only to preserve a good situation and health for their fellow islanders.
Jack is a symbol of evil. He and his choir boys, who are presented almost as an army, have no respect for Ralph's government at all. They resent all kinds of auth .....

Lonliness In Of Mice And Men -
.... because of age, race, or sex.
Loneliness is demonstrated in this novel by many of its characters. One character, Crooks has to live in an isolated shack next to the barn because he is black, his only companions are his books. He shows his loneliness when Lennie and Candy comes into his room and even if he says he does not want them in his room he cannot conceal his pleasure with anger. Curly’s wife is another character that shows loneliness because she is stuck in the house often and .....

Lisa Bright And Dark By John N
.... on in Lisa Shilling’s head. Details in the novel are at times elaborate, but there are parts in the story where the writing style is very direct. All of these aspects make John Neufeld’s writing style unique.
Lisa Bright and Dark is a disturbing but powerful look into the mind of mental illness. This would be a good story for anyone to read. It gives insight into the struggles of a common mental disorder, and what can happen when depression goes untreated.

Kurt Vonneguts Slaughter House
.... real irony in Slaughterhouse- Five took a lot more thought and time than simply making up stories about men who get killed when they try and retrieve their wedding ring from an elevator shaft.
Billy Pilgrim's life is structured in such a way where he floats from experience to experience (in no chronological order). He has the ability to become "unstuck in time", which means that he can uncontrollably drift from one part of his life to another. Ironically, Slaughterhouse- Five is structurally organ .....
