Nicknames
.... therefore it embarrassed me
tremendously.
People such as myself are insulted by nicknames. I have a friend
who became known as “Brute”, because she was tough and always got into
fights with boys and girls. She was extremely insulted by the name,
because she was just trying to stick up for herself. People who are
overweight tend to develop nicknames such as fatty, or chunky, and to have
a nickname for something that some people aren’t able to control is
insulting and lowers their self-esteem even more. .....

Beowulf: A Man Of Many Values
.... a warrior society, including
bravery, prowess in battle, loyalty, generosity, and a belief in wyrd,
which is Latin for fate.
First of all, Beowulf demonstrates the value of bravery. This
value was essential for a warrior to be successful. While other men were
too frightened and intimidated by Grendel, Beowulf showed no fear toward
his challenges. While Grendel was a supernatural destructive force,
Beowulf discarded this notion and fought with all his might. After easily
destroying Grendel, Beowulf .....

Our Similarity To Ancient Greek Society
.... exactly. We may
acquire the basic idea of a law, but we change it to fit in with our
existing principals. This allows us to take the best of what other
countries have, without giving up our own independence.
In Ancient Greece, their government ‘favored the many instead of
the few’. We, too, have this philosophy. Our government is a democracy,
which is the same system that the Greeks employed. A democracy benefits
the country as a whole by allowing everyone to have an equal vote, as
opposed to only .....

Women In The Odyssey: Valued Beings Or Forgotten Slaves?
.... and watched men go off to war
and then waited hopefully for their return. But in the Odyssey, it is a woman
who saves the day several times. The story starts with Athene interrupting
the chief god, Zeus, and reminding him of Odysseus' troubles on Earth. She
convinces them to back her against Poseidon, who is angry with Odysseus, and
allow her to start him on his journey home. She then continues to watch him
throughout the story to make sure he was safe. Everywhere he goes, she is
there. In Book .....

Emerson's “Self-Reliance”: Optimistic But Unrealistic For The 21st Century
.... We
feel as though we are misunderstood and are not worthy of such popularity.
Emerson makes a good point when he says not to overlook today’s
youth. I think we need to put things into perspective and realize that kids
aren’t going to stay kids forever. They will grow up to be adults and we
have to teach them now to make good decisions because they will be running
the world in the near future.
The unrealistic side to Emerson’s philosophy is that now-a-days we
all want to be appreciated. We don’t look to .....

The Gilgamesh Epic And The Old Testament
.... the most significant differences in both pieces is the
search for immortality. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, when Gilgamesh found the
miraculous plant that gives immortality to anyone who eats it, a great
snake steals from him. Like in the Old Testament, God ordered Adam and Eve
not to eat the Is there really an eternal life like what everyone is
searching for?
In the Epic of Gilgamesh, the people considered natural
catastrophes to be work of the gods. The gods, they believed, even used
nature to punish the .....

Kingston's “No Name Woman”: Community's Role
.... ever”. So even though she had sex
against her will, she couldn’t have talked to anyone about it. “My aunt
could not have been the lone romantic who gave up everything for sex”
shows that she was not an immoral woman but someone who was forced into
having sex. She could not let anyone know what was happening with her. She
had no one to listen to her and understand her misery. She did not have
anyone to rescue her out of the fateful situation. Her own family treated
her as an “outcast”. They made her, the .....

"From Wrath To Compassion": Archilles As A Tragic Hero
.... breaks the Greek heroic code by giving into compassion for others. This
moral change went against everything he stood for.
[Discussion of the change he undergoes]: The story shows that anyone can
change under any circumstances and that what is true today may change
tomorrow. Archilles is more of a hero by showing compassion in that King
Priam is more respectful of him because he returns Hector's body and
actually grieves with him [Example]. This shows that hateful Archilles has
a softer side and is vulne .....

The Way An Individual Interprets Things Is Based Upon Their Opinions

Words can not even begin to describe what we see or feel. “When in
love, the sight of the beloved has a completeness which no words and no
embrace can match: a completeness which only the act of making love can
temporarily accommodate.”(p.68)

art) should ever be reproduced. However, no situation can be composed

Beowulf: The Mighty Protector Of Men

Beowulf is extremely loyal to his people.
“Proclaiming that he’d go to that famous king,
Would sail across the sea to Hrothgar,
Now when help was needed”(114-116)
describes Beowulf’s reason for his journey to Hrothgar to save his people
from Grendel. In another line, Beowulf is described as: “that noble
protector of all seamen”(596). This proves he really cares about the likes
of other people and what .....

Slavery Reparations Are Wrong
.... of indemnity and
requite. The point of the follow critique is not to say that Africans
were not mistreated, nor that they are not worthy of reparations, but that
perhaps reparations are not an adequate solution to this situation, and
indeed will only serve to worsen.
Africa is a continent in dire straits. European colonization and
colonialism damaged the native structure and society - some might say that
this simply proves that European man caused, and ought to pay for, the
damages done to Afric .....

Who Was The Author Of "Shakespearean Works"?
.... works. To have
all the knowledge that is portrayed in the works, the author must have
accomplished many things. These including a superior education, from what
we know of "Shakespeare", this was not a possibility.(Bethell 46) We do not
even know if Shakespeare has ever written anything in his life, Nor do we
know that he was paid for writing these works. The man Shakespeare does

Beowulf: An Anglo-Saxon Epic Hero

dragon and he is once again victorious. Another example of Beowulf’s
strength is his defeat of Grendel, a beastly monster. Beowulf not only
kills Grendel but rips the beasts arm off and brings it to his mother. His
men admire Beowulf’s skills and courage. Also, when Beowulf is fighting
Grendel's mother, who is seeking revenge on her son's death, he is able to
end her life by slashing the monster's neck .....

number of times you see our names in the “arrest made” section?
It’s bad when children aren’t fortunate enough to be praised for
their actions in their own home but they can’t even get it at school
anymore. I was recently in a pageant and one of the questions asked was, “
How will your generation be remembered?” According to society we are

Freedom Of Speech?
.... of life? You are! All of
us are responsible for our actions. It is understood that we have to bear
the consequences of our actions. In many cases, a simple word can lead to

society, is often initiated by “fighting words” - words that are so
insulting which would cause immediate violence.
The Bible says, “Do not accuse a man for no reason-when he has done
