.... specification lists, and up to the
minute reports.
Ever since Sears Roebuck created the first pictorial catalogue, the
idea has fascinated US that merchandises could be selected and ordered in our
leisure time. Like any cataloging system, references make it easy to find what
user seeks. Since its inception, The Internet has been refining its search
tools. Being able to find products through many catalogues is what make the
Internet shine in information retrieval. This helps the consumer f .....

.... rates of
300bps to 1,200 bps to 2,400 bps to 9,600 bps to 14.4Kbps to 28.8Kbps to, and to
33.6Kbps. Now new modem standards are emerging, reaching speeds of up to
56Kbps. Unlike the 33.6Kbps modems being sold today, 56Kbps is a significant
improvement over 28.8Kbps modems. Viewing complex graphics or downloading sound
files improves significantly with 56Kbps. The modem experts keep telling us that
we are about maxed out. For instance when the 28.8 modems where first introduced
they said that we've reache .....

Morality And Ethics And Computers
.... these questions all the more
important for today's society to answer.
There are also many moral and ethical problems dealing with the use of
computers in the medical field. In one particular case, a technician trusted
what he thought a computer was telling him, and administered a deadly dose of
radiation to a hospital patient.2 In cases like these, it is difficult to decide
who's fault it is. It could have been the computer programmer's fault, but
Goodman asks, "How much responsibility can you place o .....

Computer Multimedia
.... mathematical equations.
Engineering drawing applications such as CAD (computer assisted device) use
this method. The other method is by bit mapped graphics. Here the computer
actually keeps track of every point in the picture and its description. Paint
programs use this technique. Drawing programs are usually vector mapped
programs and paint programs are usually bit mapped.
Computer sound is handled in two different ways. The sound can be described
digitally and stored as an image (wave format) of .....

Language Processing will exist.
Alan Turing predicted of NLP in 1950 (Daniel Crevier, 1994, page 9):
"I believe that in about fifty years' time it will be possible to
program computers .... to make them play the imitation game so well that an
average interrogator will not have more than 70 per cent chance of making the
right identification after five minutes of questioning."
But in 1950, the cu .....

by the system purging to make room for saved and working files. These deleted
files can also be purged manually with the SALVAGE utility, which is a great way
to make sure that a file you don't want others to see is completely removed from
the system!!!
For a user or administrator to retrieve a file using SALVAGE, the create right

directory in which the file resides. If the d .....

Organic Molecules Challenge
.... chemistry, Carnegie-
Mellon University, Pittsburgh. "Now it's only a matter of time, hard work, and
some luck before molecular electronics start having a noticeable impact."
Molecular electronics is so named because it uses molecules to act as the
"wires" and "switches" of computer chips. Wires, may someday be replaced by
polymers that conduct electricity, such as polyacetylene and
polyphenylenesulfide. Another candidate might be organometallic compounds such
as porphyrins and phthalocyanines which also .....

Computers: Nonverbal Communications
.... "because they construct
enduring places, objects, and user identities. These objects have
characteristics that define and constrain how users can interact with them,"
(Holmes & Dishman, 1994, p. 6). Having been created in their most rudimentary
form nearly two decades ago, the technology that supports MUD interaction is
well developed and has spawned a new variety of communicative environment, one
that thousands if not millions of users have found fiercely compelling.
Since MUDs are generally restricted .....

Now Is The Time To Be Computer Literate

Our homes will be run by computers. Computers will adjust the
temperature. Home appliances will be linked to the computer. Imagine driving
home from work and calling your computer and having it start dinner for you.
Have it adjust the temperature so your home will be a comfortable temperature
when you arrive. Window covering will be adjusted to allow the correct amount of
sunlight in. Light fixtures will automatically adju .....

Optical Storage Mediums
.... on a disk, and this movement is very small, usually
less than a hairÕs width. This allows one to store an immense amount of data on
one disk. The light does not touch the disk surface, thereby not creating
friction, which leads to wear, so the life of an average optical disk is far
longer than that of a magnetic medium. Also, it is impossible to ÒcrashÓ an
optical disk (in the same sense as crashing a hard drive), since there is a
protective layer covering the data areas, and that the ÒheadÓ of the dri .....

Outsourcing
.... As a result, an organisation may find that it is not
possible to have all its IT services supplied from within its own company. Given
this, an IT manager may decide to choose to seek assistance from an external
contractor/company to supply their services the organisation lacks. In addition,
the business competition has set the pace for an organisation to continue to
strive for internal efficiency. It also needs to look for a way to transfer non-
core activities or "in house" services and suppo .....

The Paperless(?) Office
.... How does a company make
sure that when an electronic communication is sent only the person it is
intended for will read it? How does a company make sure private information
does not make the evening news?
2. Are certain types of information more readily amenable to digital
processing in a paperless office than others? If so, why; if not, why not?
It would seem that some types of information are better in paperless
form, while some are not. Implementing an e-mail system can do wonders for

Past, Present, And Future Of Computers
.... Engine. Within ten years, the Analytical Engine was produced.
This machine could perform several tasks. These tasks would be givin to the
machine and could figure out values of almost any algebraic equation. Soon, a
silk weaver wanted to make very intricate designs. The designs were stored on
punch-cards which could be fed into the loom in order to produce the designs
requested. This is an odd beginning for the most powerful invention in the
world.
In the 1930's, a man named Konrad Zuse start .....

A Tour Of The Pentium Pro Processor Microarchitecture
.... Pentium processor's pipelined implementation
uses five stages to extract high throughput from the silicon - the Pentium Pro
processor moves to a decoupled, 12-stage, superpipelined implementation, trading
less work per pipestage for more stages. The Pentium Pro processor reduced its
pipestage time by 33 percent, compared with a Pentium processor, which means the
Pentium Pro processor can have a 33% higher clock speed than a Pentium processor
and still be equally easy to produce from a semiconductor manuf .....

They can study and learn from the advancements with in the programming.
