All My Sons: Miller's Chief Criticism Of American Society
.... in
general values money and profit more than human life. He shows this by his
portrayal of Keller. Keller ships out cracked cylinder heads, aware that in
flight they will cause planes to crash, to save his business from being shut
down. Furthermore, he goes on to allow the blame to fall on Steve, in order to
save himself from going to jail, even though Steve was not the only one guilty.
Keller tries to rationalize his actions by saying that he committed this heinous
act for the benefit of his family- .....

Brave New World: All Things Are Relative
.... women are supposed to walk ten
feet behind their husbands. This may seem like demeaning women to us but who
are we to judge when the United States has had a long history of racial and
ethnic discrimination and only now are we changing.
The society in Brave New World has not lost their values but has simple
changed their idea of what is right and wrong. After all, how much have we
changed in the past 600 years. Six-hundred years ago in England, we killed
people for conducting scientific experime .....

An Analysis Of Maya Angelou's "I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings"
.... there is always a time when one must leave and bravely enter the unknown
world behind the shell. Mrs. Flowers encouraged Maya to emerge and assisted her
in finding her strongest defense and force, her love of literature, to open this
barrier and allow Maya to end the silence. By doing this, it enhanced Maya's
courage and willingness to conquer other barriers and fortresses. Maya's love of
literature expanded and opened her horizons. One of Maya's favorite pieces of
literature is The Tale of Two Cit .....

An Analysis Of Gulliver's Travels
.... island of Blefuscu.
Gulliver helps the Littlenders to defeat the bigenders. In this book Swift
emphasises the stupidity in the war between England and France and also every
war which starts over a stupid reason, he also points out the meaningless in
courtlife were they do nothing but waste the states money.
At he lilliputians he builds a raft which he uses to sail back to England. But
instead he finds himself shipwrecked and washed upon the shores of Brumbidang or
the giants land. there he was found b .....

A Comparison Of The Magic In "The Rocking-Horse Winner" And "A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings"
.... ride it often as
Lawrence describes. The stories are bound by the fact that the magical things
they discover are unbelievable at best. They often criticize Paul for his
affection for a horse he should have outgrown long ago. No one would believe
that the rocking-horse essentially talked to him. Although the characters in "A
Very Old Man with Enormous Wings" believe that an angel is in their presence,
they have no idea what to do with him. No one had ever dealt with a spirit on
this level before.

An American Tragedy: Comparing "The Crucible" And "The Scarlet Letter"
.... for Hawthorne to write a novel. Hawthorne perhaps
chose this dark subject to convey his contempt for Puritanism. He was a man
preoccupied with the hidden sin which is illustrated in not only the Scarlet
Letter, but also in The Minister's Black Veil. One might even say that
Hawthorne's ancestry (Hathorne) is what he might consider his own "Pearl", and
this is why he changed his name.
Like Miller's the Crucible, The Scarlet Letter takes place in Puritan
Salem and has a tragic hero, but these a .....

An Analysis Of Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales": The Wife Of Bath's Tale
.... righteous man,
willing to sacrifice self for the worthy cause of the afflicted and weak; on the
other, we have the sad truth that the human knight rarely lived up to this
ideal(Patterson 170). In a work by Muriel Bowden, Associate Professor of
English at Hunter College, she explains that the knights of the Middle Ages were
"merely mounted soldiers, . . . notorious" for their utter cruelty(18). The
tale Bath's Wife weaves exposes that Chaucer was aware of both forms of the
medieval soldier. Where as .....

An Analysis Of "Heart Of Darkness"
.... as darkness fell, reminding his
audience that exploitation of one group by another was not new in history. They
were anchored in the river, where ships went out to darkest Africa. Yet, as
lately as Roman times, London's own river led, like the Congo, into a barbarous
hinterland where the Romans went to make their profits. Soon darkness fell over
London, while the ships that bore "civilization" to remote parts appeared out of
the dark, carrying darkness with them, different only in kind to the darkne .....

An Analysis Of Hawthorne's Short Stories
.... the Devil. Hawthorne, in this case
directly uses faith as the carrier of a flaw. That is, she does not contain
enough self-control, or faith to refuse the calling of the Devil. Even with the
emotional plea from her husband, “Look up to heaven, and resist the wicked one,”
(1590) Faith cannot resist the Devil's temptation and has “uncertain sorrow,”
(1587) after submitting to him. The character of Faith which Hawthorne
portrays is one of uncertainty and one which has a lack of self control. Faith
is a .....

An Analysis Of Why Jimmy Doyle Will Never Succeed In Life Due To His Father
.... He
did not want his son to work as hard as he did growing up. When Jimmy went away
to college, he spent more time socializing than he did studying. "Jimmy did not
study very earnestly and took to bad courses for awhile. He had money and he
was popular; ..."(p.25). Jimmy liked better to be in the company of peers
rather than study, and his father condoned it. When Jimmy was not doing well at
Dublin University, his father let him go off to Cambridge where he could "see
life a little". While there .....

King Arthur And The Knights Of The Round Table: An Epic Hero For Modern Times
.... I will however, discuss the mood, tone, and characterization of a few key
figures in the two works.
One difference in character that I found was that in the introduction
to Morte d' Arthur, Mordred is referred to as King Arthurs nephew. Later in the
text, when Arthur and Mordred are fighting (p. 96, para.1) it says, ". . . so he
smote his father King Arthur with his sword holden in both hands, upon the side
of the head . . ." In Camelot, Mordred is Arthur's illegitimate son, although
he keeps thi .....

relationship with the deity about slave and master. This makes Janie the leader
of her family's search. However Nanny realized this, and when she saw that Janie
was old enough for love she had her married. This guaranteed that Janie would
not continue a loss of identity.
Even as a young girl, living in the materialistic world of her Nanny and
her first husband, Logan Killicks, Janie chooses to listen to "the words of the
trees and the wind" (23-24). This is the first evi .....

Animal Farm
.... was just a metaphor, and there were no "animals" in the
story. As I read I discovered the whole thing was a metaphor.
The five topics I'll be covering are:
1. plot structure
2. conflict
3. point of view
4. symbolism and figuration language
5. theme and author's vision
I hope this essay shows the ideas of Eric Blair and the freedom we have
under government control.
Body-
1. plot structure
The story starts off in a form called "Manor .....

Animal Farm: Utopia
.... Beasts of England, beasts of Ireland,
Beasts of every land and clime,
Hearken to my joyful tidings,
Of the golden future time.
Soon or late the day is coming,
Tyrant Man shall be o'erthrown,
And the fruitful fields of England,
Shall be trod by beasts alone.
Rings shall vanish from our noses,
And the harness from our back,
Bit and spur shall rust forever,
Cruel whips no more shall crack.
