The temple of Zeus at Olympia was built in the mid to late fourth century BC. It was built using funds from the “Elean defeat of neighboring Pisa, an example of the ongoing struggle for power in ancient Greece” (Furer). The architect of the temple was Libon. Libon built the structure with limestone and white stucco in a pure Doric style. To modify the temple a chryselephantine statue of the god in whose honor the ancient Olympic games were held, Zeus, was built by the famous sculptor Pheidias.
