Sir Gawain and the Green Knight Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is an epic poem of faith and self-awareness. The main character Gawain goes on a journey of sorts to establish his true identity. Throughout his journey his peers saw Gawain as a hero. He personally feels that he is a failure. This journey would consist of test of Gawains character, faith and honor. From the outset of the poem Gawain is tested. During the feast in King Arthur castle a visitor arrives. This visitor is none other than the Green Knight.
