Araby and A Rose For Emily: Comparison
These two short stories: “Araby,” by James Joyce; and “A Rose for Emily,” by William Faulkner; conclude in a way that would leave the reader thinking. In “Araby” my initial view of the young boy was reinforced by the ending, however in “A Rose for Emily” my view of Miss Emily was left changed in many ways depending on how I looked at the ending. The ending of these stories are very important in picturing the characters to be at the end, reinforcing or changing the way I pictured them in the beginning.
