“Changes in M. Lantin’s Perspective” In “The Jewelry”, the reader experiences many emotions that are felt by the main character, M. Lantin. M. Lantin experienced love, joy, sorrow, and loneliness. The reader watches his personality change as the story goes on. The story starts out in a euphoric state involving love and marriage, but eventually evolves into a miserable tale of a widower and his loss. The underlying theme of this story, which may go unnoticed, is that there is an unfillable void that is left by the loss of a loved one and that there is a struggle within in order to overcome this loss.
