Blindness In Oedipus It has been said that people can be blinded to the truth. The answer to their question may have been sitting right in front of them all along, yet they could not see it. Associations have been made between being blind and being enlightened. The blind are said to have enhanced senses, even being able to "see" into the future. Blind people may not have physical sight, but they have exceptional vision. In Oedipus The King, Tiresias, the sightless prophet, offers the truth to King Oedipus and Jocasta. Oedipus has been veiled to the reality of his whole life. When he does uncover the truth, he loses his physical sight by blinding himself.
