The Seneca Falls Convention On July 13, 1848, five women met for tea in Seneca Falls, New York. The pioneer of this woman’s rights movement was Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Stanton poured out her discontent with women’s legal and social situation in such passionate terms that her friend’s were stirred to call a public meeting to address the issues she raised. They daringly announced A convention to discuss the social, civil, and religious condition and rights of woman for July 19 and 20 in Seneca Falls. In the history of western civilization, no similar public meeting had ever been called (USA 80). Using the Declaration of Independence as
